Scaphism, also known as "the boats," was a method of torture and execution used in ancient Persia. The victim was restrained within two boats or hollowed-out tree trunks that were bound together. The person's head, arms, and legs were left outside the boats, while the torso was inside. The executioners would then force-feed the victim a mixture of milk and honey, and cover them in the same mixture. This attracted insects like flies, which would begin to lay their eggs in the mixture on the person's exposed skin. This led to the slow and painful feeding of maggots and larvae on the victim's flesh, ultimately leading to his or her death. The practice of scaphism is now considered barbaric and inhumane.
